Experience Fishing in Weligama

Lend a hand to the precariously balanced stilt fishermen in Weligama to get their catch of the day. Try balancing on those sticks and feel the adrenaline rush as you get that bite.  This traditional fishing method came into being just after World War II and requires amazing skill and balance.  The vertical pole with its attached crossbar is embedded into the seabed in shallow water causing minimal shadows and disturbance to sealife.  The rod is then cast from this precarious position and could bring in a catch of small mackerel or spotted herring. Once fishing is fulfilled, swim and snorkel at Jungle Beach Rumassala close by or if turtles are your thing, learn all about them at the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation project.
